You may remember a truly brilliant teacher from school who made a real difference to your life. As a teacher you can use your knowledge and passion for your subject to help children unlock capabilities and talents that they didn’t even know they had. You’ll develop a wide range of transferable skills for yourself in the process, too.
Drop us an email at hmain@sbtalliance or call Helen on 01787 314 317 to discuss the best way forward for you.
Rewards of Teaching
As most teachers will tell you, there’s no such thing as a ‘typical’ day at work. That’s because no two days are the same – you’re unlikely ever to be bored by a lack of variety. It’s also a career that offers gret benefits, opportunities for you to use a wide range of skills and inspire students in the subject you love.
Every day you’ll get the chance to inspire young people and use your skills to give something back – making sure every pupil gets the same access to a quality education and the opportunity to succeed.

Why train in Suffolk with the SBTA?
Suffolk offers both modern urban environments and beautiful rural landscapes. House prices are affordable and it offers easy access to London, Cambridge and Stansted airport. There's also plenty to do, whether it be enjoying activities in the stunning countryside or enjoying great local food in one of the many fantastic restaurants in the area.
As well as the opportunity to work in a cutting edge Research Academy Trust (one of only 11 in the country), the schools of the SBTA provide exciting and rewarding opportunities in primary, secondary and special school settings. We will find you school placements in Sudbury. Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds or Haverhill.
Strategic Provider Partnerships
SBTA offer school direct training options for graduates who want hands-on training in a school. On a school direct training course, you’ll get the chance to learn on the job in at least two schools, learning from experienced colleagues. You’ll be putting your new skills into practise from day one while you gain qualified teacher status (QTS), and most courses also offer a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE).
SBTA work with four ITT Providers to ensure that your training is tailor made to suit you.
- Secondary ITT with TESInstitute
- Secondary ITT with Suffolk and Norfolk SCITT
- Primary ITT with University of Hertfordshire
- Primary ITT with Colchester Teacher Training Consortium
Financial support while you train
What's your next step?
Getting classroom experiecen will help you to decide whether teaching is right for you. We encourage applicants to visit our partnerships schools to gain classroom experience. This experience will support your application but we must state that school experience is not essential and that we welcome applications from all interested candidates.
During your time in a school you will have the opportunity to:
- talk with teachers about day to day school life
- observe teaching and pastoral work
- watch a range of lessons and age groups being taught.
- Please contact Helen Main if this is of interest to you.
Applying with UCAS
