About us

Welcome to the Suffolk Borders Teaching School Alliance

Teaching Schools are a very exciting development in the evolution of education and we truly believe that together we are stronger and can achieve more.

Teaching schools are part of the Government’s drive to give schools more freedom and take increasing responsibility for managing the schools system. As well as offering training and support for their alliance themselves, teaching schools identify and co-ordinate expertise from their partners and wider alliance,

The alliance has been designated by the NCSL to play a key role in leading training and professional development of teachers, support staff, deputy heads, head teachers and governors.

Our Lead School: Samuel Ward Academy, Haverhill.

As a teaching school Samuel Ward Academy is leading the 3 hubs of schools that form our partnership building on a strong track record of collaborative working. Our aim is to work with local schools to harness and develop further, the good and outstanding practice that is already evident. Our ambition is to be a successful alliance where all schools reach their full potential, supported by our joint professional development and effective support systems.

Membership of the Alliance offers the freedom to decide what works best in our area and to design our own professional development.  This is what makes our collaboration so powerful. Bringing schools together in an alliance provides more opportunities for promotion, aiding the retention of good teachers, while school-based training offers the chance for teachers to develop coaching and mentoring skills.

The Suffolk Borders Alliance consists of a wide variety of partners drawn from across the education sector. This ensures a range of expertise for all partners to share and for other schools to buy into, through school to school support.

Our partner schools represented all phases and sectors, organised in three hubs focused in Great Cornard, Haverhill and Newmarket.
